Chehalis WA – Traveling Downtown Chehalis on two wheels is getting easier. The Chehalis Community Renaissance Team (CCRT) has funded the production of ten bike racks now installed in Downtown Chehalis. The bike racks were produced by local metal artist Shawn King, owner of Iron King. Installation of the bike racks was completed by City of Chehalis staff. “We are so pleased to offer an option for folks to park their bikes. Without a better alternative, bikes downtown were being chained to everything from garbage cans to benches,” stated Annalee Tobey, Executive Director. Several local businesses including Book N Brush, Sweet Inspirations and The Pearl Café graciously sponsored the racks placed near their businesses.
This project was accomplished to make bicycling more safe, convenient, and welcoming in Downtown Chehalis. Six bike racks have been placed on Market Street, two racks at the Chehalis Timberland Library and two racks on Chehalis Avenue. “We extend our thanks to our supportive local businesses and the hard-working city staff. The racks were installed just four days after they were delivered,” said Tobey. Take a bike ride downtown and then rack it up – Downtown Chehalis is ready!
The bike racks are part of CCRT’s work plan which includes projects and initiatives focused on community building, economic development, quality design, traffic and parking, and downtown development.
The Chehalis Community Renaissance Team accomplishes projects and activities to make the Chehalis area a more attractive place in which in live and raise a family; to enhance job opportunities and the involvement of youth, so more high school and college graduates choose to live in the area; to increase tourism to support local retailers, hotels and restaurants; and to increase retail business to enhance local shopping.
