Traffic shift to temporary detour bridge Nov. 21
CHEHALIS – People who use Chamber Way over Interstate 5 in Chehalis will need to plan ahead for nighttime closures of the overpass next week.
Both directions of Chamber Way will close between the I-5 northbound and southbound ramps each night from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., Monday, Nov. 20 until the morning of Wednesday, Nov. 22.
During that time, contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation are scheduled to complete grading and weather-dependent paving and striping work on the temporary detour alignment adjacent to the existing overpass.
On Tuesday morning, Nov. 21, after the first night of grading work, traffic will shift to the temporary structure. Vehicles will run on short gravel sections on each side of the bridge that day.
Demolition of the existing Chamber Way overpass will be scheduled in the following weeks, requiring two nighttime detours of I-5. Construction of the new wider, taller overpass will begin soon afterward to be complete next fall.
