CHEHALIS – Travelers who use Interstate 5 through Chehalis should plan for a nighttime detour this weekend for demolition work above the highway.
Beginning at 11:59 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 9, both directions of I-5 will be routed to the off- and on-ramps at Chamber Way, and then back onto the highway. In preparation for the detour, a single lane in both directions of I-5 will close at 10 p.m. onSaturday, Dec. 9. All lanes will reopen by 8 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 10.
While traffic is detoured, Chamber Way will be closed between Louisiana Avenue and State Avenue. Contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will demolish the existing Chamber Way overpass and remove the temporary truss bridge above the freeway to make way for a new wider, taller structure.
Additional demolition work over I-5 is scheduled for the following weekend from 11:59 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 16 until 8 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 17.
