Please join Soroptimist in honoring Donna Karvia, “A True Community Icon”: 2016 Person of the Year, who helped shape Lewis County through public service and volunteering. In her honor, Soroptimists have started a Centralia College scholarship. This Scholarship supports educational goals of young women who have the desire to further their education, but do not have the means.
Please join us in supporting this worthy cause by attending the Wine, Cheese and Chocolate tasting, February 15th from 5-7pm in downtown Centralia, Dawn’s Delectables and the The Rectangle Gallery. The cost is 25.00 per person. There are limited tickets available, so please reserve your ticket by calling Doris Wood 360-736-1570.
Donna was a 42 year member of Soroptimists,(Soroptimist means “best for women”) a global organization whose members volunteer to improve the lives of disadvantaged women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment. The local Chapter is very involved with empowering girls to expand their education and career opportunities. One event held annually is called “Dare To Dream” where 6th, 7th, and 8th grade girls attend a day packed with fun, guest speakers and activities that introduce them to information about various career and funding options available to them. Another Soroptimist activity is the Live Your Dream Award available to women who are sole providers in their household, and who are seeking further education or training to improve their job skills. For further information about Soroptimist or about attending a meeting call Doris Brumsickle at 360-736-1570.
