The Centralia-Chehalis Club is busy making plans for this year’s “Dare to Dream” day to be held on Oct. 28 at the Mossyrock School. The event which has been a huge success the past 3 years, will see some new activities and exciting speakers as Soroptimist members maintain the mission of Soroptimist International,” Best For Women and Girls”. The local club defines this mission by holding a “Dare to Dream” day for 6-8 grade girls in the White Pass-Randle, Morton, Onalaska, and Mossyrock area. Our county is large and distance can make it difficult for girls from these areas to attend events held in the larger communities.
The girls’ day will be filled with inspirational speakers, presentations focusing on self-confidence and positive attitude, and frank discussions about safe behavior on social media as well as the negative aspects of bullying. Crafts, group activities, and delicious food will round out a busy event-filled day. Girls will go home with a free backpack filled with a book, a journal, a piggy bank, their craft project and other goodies.
Soroptimist members will be setting up times to come to each of the schools in mid-September to speak to all 6-8 grade girls with an information letter with a permission slip for parents to sign and return to the school in order for the girl to attend.
While there is no cost to the girls, the actual cost is approximately $50 each. If you are interested in being a sponsor to help with the costs of this project or would like additional information please call Doris Wood at 360-736-1570.
