CHEHALIS, WA –Lewis County Seniors Centers were owned and managed by Lewis County until December 31, 2017 when financial constraints caused the county to make a change. A Transition Board comprised of community leaders was assembled in December 2016 to find a permanent solution to funding the 5 senior centers and 1 nutrition site. They recommended a that a non-profit organization, Lewis County Seniors take over the management and financial funding of all the sites. Effective January 1, 2018, Lewis County Seniors took over the operations. Lewis County Seniors mission is to provide services to ensure all older adults are revered, cared for, and/or supported as they continue to live meaningful lives through the aging process. Our vision is to maintain a self-sustaining long term senior services program that encourages continued independence and improved quality of life for older adults. A fundraising plan was initiated and part of that plan was to open a Thrift Store. A Thrift Committee was formed and choose the site at 749 S. Market in Chehalis (next to Ace Hardware). It was named” A Second Time Around Thrift Store”, a homage to Toledo’s Senior Centers annual garage sale. We opened to the public, February 5, 2018, and have scheduled a Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting March 29th at 12:15 pm. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. We are asking the community for monetary donations along with gently used furniture, clothing, jewelry and household goods. Donations are accepted during Thrift Store hours, Monday through Saturday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm and on Sunday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. We are also looking for volunteers who would like to work in the Thrift store.
A unique feature of our thrift store is the “Boutique” area that has name brand clothing, shoes, purses and jewelry for women, men, and children. Specially designed at the store is the Auction Display Window. All items in the window have been donated and are numbered and given a base price for a Silent Auction. The Silent Auction is held for approximately two months. The Senior Center Thrift Store is also an excellent bargain if you enjoy shopping. For example, if you are trying to decorate a room in the 50’s style, you will probably find everything here. If you are looking to add a new piece to a room makeover, it doesn’t have to be new. A can of spray paint can transform a picture frame or candle stick. Fabric paint can change the color or tone of a beautiful piece of upholstered furniture. You are only limited by your imagination. Remember, “One man’s junk is another man’s treasure”. Come see us at the new A Second Time Around Thrift Store for your next exciting find!
