The Port of Centralia was approved by voters, along with the Port of Chehalis, on September 16, 1986.

In a speech to attendees, Executive Director Amy Graber discussed the early history of the Port. She explained that prior to the Port’s formal formation, a group of Centralia business leaders started discussing the future of industrial development in Centralia in anticipation of the mine closure. Calling themselves Centralians, this group identified the area that later became the Port’s Park I for the best location for a new industrial area and started purchasing the land. After the vote in 1986, the Port was able to begin its administrative foundation and finally built its first building in 1989.

Today, the Port comprises three parks and has over 30 tenants.

For the near future, the Port’s efforts are largely focused on building out its Park 3/Centralia Station development and the future Logistics Property Company development in Park I.

At Centralia Station, WinCo Foods opened its doors in 2025. Graber announced that Chick-fil-A is projected to begin construction of its location in October and the construction of Valvoline Instant Oil Change shortly thereafter.

Graber said, “The Port is actively pursuing other tenants of all types for all parks, and I am excited to see what the future holds for us. We have been able to accomplish many things in the past 40 years and I would like to continue that momentum.”

Graber also acknowledged special guest Larry W. Fagerness, who has provided legal guidance to the Port since its creation. Fagerness is retiring from his legal practice and was honored for his 40 years of service to the Port.
