Head Men’s Basketball Coach for Centralia College

Josef was recently named Head Men’s Basketball Coach for Centralia College, and is taking on the challenge of running the inaugural 3-on-3 Streetball games for Centralia-Chehalis Chamber of Commerce.
Prior to joining the basketball program at the College, Josef was the Head Boys’ Basketball Coach for Tenino High School from 2013-2022 and also became the Athletic Director in 2017. During his tenure with Tenino, he started the Tenino Youth Basketball League, which launched with about 50 members and grew to more than 160 kids prior to the Covid shutdown.
Josef was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska, where he graduated from high school as the 2002 Alaska State Male Athlete of the Year. He moved to Lacey, WA where he played basketball, and attended and graduated from St. Martins College in 2007. In addition to his role at Tenino High School, he spent five years coaching at Yelm High School as an Assistant Basketball & Football Coach and also spent 1 year at Olympia High School as Girl’s Varsity Assistant Coach.
Now that he is working for Centralia College Josef looks forward to becoming more involved locally, which the 3-on-3 Streetball Festival offers. “This is such a great opportunity to get to know and work within the community,” commented Josef. “Historically I’ve worked exclusively with youth and now I get to expand my passion to young adults and older players.”

Centralia-Chehalis Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to announce its first annual 3-on-3 Streetball Festival! We are bringing the excitement of 3-on-3 basketball to the streets of Chehalis this summer. The tournament takes place a short walking distance to our downtown restaurants, bars, and shopping.

Deadline: Monday, July 24, 5 pm at the Chamber office

Event Dates: Saturday & Sunday, August 5 & 6, 2023

Cost: $160 Adult & Silver Divisions $140 Youth Divisions

Teams: Must have four players with one designated as Captain, who acts as a primary contact.

Player Change must be reported in writing (email) or to game officials 30 minutes prior to first game.

Team Names: Have fun but no hate-driven names or obscenity. We reserve the right to reject a name. If that happens, the team will be given an opportunity to change it. Or we can edit it (but seriously, do you want us to?)

Team Uniforms are encouraged! Show your pride (or your funk!)

Refund Policy: 90% refund is provided if canceled before July 24. Cancellation must be delivered in writing or by email from the captain No-Refunds after July 24 or if not submitted in writing.

Adverse Weather Conditions may result in changes in tournament format including points or the number of games. No refunds will be given if games are canceled due to weather or other unprecedented events.

Specific Game Rules: These will be provided to the teams two weeks before the Tournament. By its nature, 3-on-3 streetball style tournaments are less structured than indoor organized games, but they will be familiar for most players.

Team Check-In: Teams must check-in an hour before their first scheduled game. One member can check in for the entire team. Teams that don’t check-in will forfeit their game.

Game Ball will be provided. If teams want to use their own ball, both teams must agree.

Warm-up time is not provided. Teams should warm-up ahead of their game

Good Sportsmanship is expected. Unsportsmanlike conduct will result in removal from the game.

I agree to participate in any way in the Centralia-Chehalis Chamber Adult Basketball Program, related events, and activities. The undersigned acknowledges, appreciates, and agrees to the following: I realize that basketball is a vigorous physical activity that involves running, jumping, rotation, violent body contact, and rapid directional change.

I understand that participation in basketball involves certain inherent risks and that regardless of the precautions taken by the Centralia-Chehalis Chamber Organization officials or the participants, some injuries may occur.

These injuries include but are not limited to:

Sprains, strained muscles

Broken bones, dislocated joints

Permanent disability

Quadriplegia

Death

These injuries may result from hazards such as but not limited to:

Running into an opponent

Stepping on or tripping over another player

Running into a wall or other obstruction

Being struck by another opponent or the ball

Adhering to the following safety rules may lessen the likelihood of such injuries:

Properly warm up before practices or games

No "horseplay" or fighting during practices or games

I am willing and agree to comply with the program's stated and customary terms and conditions for participation.In order to properly protect myself and that of fellow participants, I agree to follow these rules as well as any others that may be given by the official or any other agent of Chamber of Commerce. Further, in recognition of the importance of shared responsibility for safety, I will remove myself immediately report any noted deviations from the safety rules as well as any observed hazardous conditions or equipment to the official or agent in charge.

I further certify that my present level of physical condition is consistent with the demands of active participation in basketball. I HAVE CAREFULLY READ THE FOREGOING DOCUMENT. I HAVE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO ASK QUESTIONS AND HAVE THEM ANSWERED. I AM CONFIDENT THAT I FULLY KNOW, UNDERSTAND, AND APPRECIATE THE RISKS INVOLVED IN ACTIVE PARTICIPATION IN BASKETBALL.

HAVING BEEN INFORMED of the above program to provide games for adults, I, the above-named registrant, do herby give my approval of his/her participation in any and all of the activities during the current season. I ASSUME ALL THE RISKS AND HAZARDS INCIDENTAL TO THE CONDUCT OF THE ACTIVITIES, and I, for myself, my spouse, and on behalf of my/our heirs, assigns, personal representatives and next of kin, do further RELEASE, ABSOLVE, INDEMNIFY, AND HOLD HARMLESS the Centralia-Chehalis Chamber Basketball Organization, the organizers, sponsors, supervisors, volunteers, other participants, advertisers, officials, and if applicable, owner and lessors of premises used to conduct practices or games, any or all of them. In case of injury to myself, I HEREBY WAIVE ALL CLAIMS against the Centralia-Chehalis Chamber organizers, the sponsors, or any of the supervisors appointed by them.
